Strategic Design & Consulting

Spring 2024 – Royal Danish Academy & CBS

In my second semester of the Master’s in Strategic Design and Entrepreneurship, I took part in a semester-long consultancy project with the strategic foresight studio Kirt x Thomsen, as part of the Strategic Design & Consulting course. The project was developed collaboratively by a multidisciplinary team: graphic designer (myself), product designer Lin, business developer Bart, and experimental designer Hugo, each bringing a unique perspective to the process. Working closely with the client, we explored and responded to a real-world strategic challenge.

The project followed a structured design process framed around the four phases: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. Throughout these stages, we combined research-based methods with iterative prototyping, applying business model innovation tools, stakeholder mapping, and design-driven consulting techniques.

Our team developed a strategic proposal focused on strengthening Kirt x Thomsen’s organisational identity. In response to the challenge of aligning internal collaboration and supporting the studio’s future growth, we created a Culture Handbook that articulates their shared vision and mission. To inform the development, we facilitated a co-creation workshop with the entire Kirt x Thomsen team, enabling collective reflection on values, working methods, and future aspirations. The handbook was designed as a practical tool to support internal decision-making and guide external expansion. Alongside the final concept, we delivered a flexible source file that allows the team to continue adapting and evolving the material as their organisation grows.

The course placed a strong emphasis on collaborative team dynamics, stakeholder engagement, and the role of the designer as a consultant within complex organisational settings. I actively contributed to the project, visualizing the strategic direction and communicating process insights through presentations, all while collaborating closely with everyone in our team.

This experience deepened my understanding of the designer’s role in strategic development and taught me how to navigate interdisciplinary collaboration more effectively, communicate with diverse stakeholders more clearly, and utilize design as a tool to mediate future-focused business challenges.
