As the
Exhibition Designer of “Samband/Connection,” I curated a showcase highlighting
Icelandic design produced and manufactured by Scandinavian design houses.
This
exhibition, part of 3daysofdesign, was located at the Icelandic Embassy in Copenhagen and featured the works of nine talented Icelandic designers
who have worked in collaboration with renowned Scandinavian design houses. The
exhibition showcased a diverse range of furniture and product designs that characterize Icelandic design.

I chose to
display each item at the exhibition on custom-designed podiums made from dark
grey MDF. Some of the podiums were designed in the shape of a warehouse pallet,
while others were in the shape of rectangular columns. This decision was
inspired by the history of the embassy building, which is an old warehouse. For
over 200 years, it served as the centre for shipping traffic between Denmark
and the North Atlantic.
By using dark grey podiums, I aimed to ensure that they seamlessly blended into the background of the space, allowing the exhibits to take center stage.

The labels
were designed to be simple and easily legible, following the same proportions
as the pallets. Each label featured a QR code, which, when scanned, provided a
direct link to the manufacturer’s website for further information about the
design.
